TASK 3 : OBSERVATION SKETCH

For this task, we were asked to go out from the design studio to do an observation. The mission is to observe three different type of furniture which including chair, table, and cabinet. To find these furniture, I went to IKEA which known as the world's largest furniture retailer. This is my very first time visit to IKEA because my hometown (Kuching,Sarawak) does not have any of the company there yet. The building is large and I'm pretty excited to see so many furniture, appliances and home accessories in it. I have spent few hours there to do my observation, I did measure those furniture I chose by using measuring tape and take some pictures from different angles for my sketching use. From this task, I have learnt how to looking at a furniture in detail and explain it with specification.

DETAIL DRAWINGS SPECIFICATION

After a lecture about the specification of furniture, we are required to sketch and do the specification of the mentioned objects. Specification of an object is very important because it explains the object in detail. The common specification writing is normally mention the Length, Width and the Thickness of the object, and then is the material used of the object.

DETAILING AND WORKING DRAWING - DRAFTING TABLE OBSERVATION SKETCH

From our first lecture of this course, we are required to get a B5 journal sketchbook. The first task is to observe the drafting table that we use in our design studio. We were asked to sketch the table with detail. Beside that, we are also required to design our own sketchbook cover page. The pictures below are my design of cover page and my task 1. The idea of my cover page design is actually from the deconstructivism, I'm a deconstruction design lover so I used to design my cover page with some 2D geometrical shapes.
